Freddie Head's Moonlight Cloud again proved her affinity for Deauville

Moonlight Cloud ran out a very impressive winner of the Prix Maurice de Gheest for the second successive year.

Freddie Head's filly, who came so close to being the first horse to beat the legendary Black Caviar in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot, absolutely hacked up at Deauville.

Settled just off the quarters of The Cheka, who attempted to make all for Eve Johnson Houghton in the Group One, Thierry Jarnet made a positive move a furlong and a half out.

She quickly put around three lengths between herself and the chasing pack and the race was over as a contest.

Wizz Kid made late headway to finish second for Robert Collet and Gerald Mosse.

The Cheka crossed the line fourth, just behind American Devil, but was promoted to third after the latter was judged to have caused interference.

Johnson Houghton tweeted: "Not quite a gold, but he got on the podium with a bronze medal!! Clever Cheka. Still proud! #goteamGB"
