Hot favourite Simonsig heads a field of 12 horses left in the Racing Post Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham on Tuesday following the confirmation stage.

The Nicky Henderson-trained grey is odds-on with the bookmakers to take his 100% record over fences to three after impressive wins at Ascot and Kempton.

Although he has not run since slamming Hinterland by 35 lengths at the latter track at Christmas, the seven-year-old grey has been delighting connections with his homework.

Simonsig bids to supplement his gains in the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle at last season's Festival and the main obstacle to that objective could be Overturn.

Donald McCain's admirable gelding was runner-up in the Champion Hurdle last year and also takes an unblemished record over fences to the meeting.

He has won all his three starts and will attempt to find any chinks in Simonsig's armour.

Champion Irish trainer Willie Mullins has three possibles in Arvika Ligeonniere, Aupcharlie and Marito.

The Mouse Morris-trained Baily Green and Benefficient from Tony Martin's stable make up the rest of the Irish contingent.

As well as Simonsig, Henderson has Captain Conan, who is a leading fancy for the Ryanair Chase on Thursday week.

Completing a highly-talented list of entries are His Excellency, Majala, Tap Night and Viva Colonia.
