Tartak to avoid Champion Chase

Tartak is likely to stay in handicap company at the Cheltenham Festival, rather than take his chance in the Champion Chase.

The seven-year-old gelding is poised to line up in the Grand Annual on 19 March after his fifth-place finish in the Blue Square Handicap Chase at Doncaster.

Trainer Tom George reported: 'Doncaster was a bit of a mess-up as he got outpaced and lost his position.

'At least we know that's definitely his trip as he was staying on at the end.

'We're going to have a change of tactics with him, though, and be more positive.

'We'll probably now run him in the Grand Annual as he's perhaps not up to Champion Chase standard.'
