Godolphin strike Gold at Saint-Cloud

Godolphin signed off the season with the final European Group One winner of the year as Passion For Gold hacked up in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud.

Last seen finishing third behind St Nicholas Abbey in the Beresford Stakes, the juvenile moved into contention under Frankie Dettori entering the straight and gradually pulled further and further clear.

Fame And Glory won the corresponding race 12 months ago and went on to win the Irish Derby and finish runner-up to Sea The Stars at Epsom, and Saeed bin Suroor will no doubt have big plans for the son of Medaglia d'Oro.

Aidan O'Brien, who has carried all before him in the top two-year-old events lately, had to settle for second this time as his Mikhail Glinka chased home the impressive winner but a long way adrift.

Andrew Balding's Gardening Leave was unplaced, along with the Mark Johnston-trained Layali Al Andalus.
