More reports from Breeders' cup
Saturday, 7 November 2009 21:24California Flag made every yard of the running under Joe Talamo to run out a hugely impressive winner of the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
Brian Koriner's grey shot out of the stalls and always appeared to be travelling strongly at the head of affairs.
The race was over as a contest when California Flag crossed the all-weather strip and he only had to be kept up to his work to beat Gotta Have Her, who finished fast to claim the runner-up spot.
Cannonball picked up minor honours in third.
Meanwhile, Dancing In Silks caused an upset in a blanket finish to the Breeders' Cup Sprint.
All the talk pre-race surrounded Zensational and Godolphin's Gayego but both were out of the money, despite the latter finishing a couple of heads away in fourth.
Zensational missed the break and could not get to the front as Cost Of Freedom took them along early.
He still held every chance a furlong out as the closers emerged.
Gayego met traffic problems as he tried to sneak up the rails but Dancing In Silks and Crown Of Thorns hit the line together and it was Joel Rosario's mount, trained by Carla Gains, that got the verdict.
