Fundamentalist may be Hennessy bound
Tuesday, 21 November 2006Nigel Twiston-Davies is still undecided as to whether 2004 Royal & SunAlliance Hurdle winner Fundamentalist will take his chance in Saturday's Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Newbury.
The eight-year-old, who looked capable of taking high rank over fences in his novice season before injury struck, also holds an engagement in the wbx.com Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle on the same day.
Fundamentalist showed he was on the way back on his most recent start at Cheltenham, where he thrilled his handler when only just touched off by Cornish Sett in a Graduation Chase.
And while Twiston-Davies will not decide whether to let him take on the big boys in the Hennessy until nearer the time, the yard will definitely be represented in the race by recent Cheltenham winner, Ardaghey.
'Fundamentalist may go for the Rehearsal instead,' revealed Twiston-Davies.
'I just need to work out who is going where and what is going on. I was very pleased with him at Cheltenham last time, it was more like the Fundamentalist we know and showed he was as good as ever.
'Ardaghey is very well and he won very well last time. We are looking forward to him running.'
