Catherine Walsh competed as a track and field athlete in five previous Paralympic Games between 1992 and 2004, winning bronze in the pentathlon at Sydney 2000 and also competing in discus and 400m athletics during her athletics career.

In 2007, she moved to tandem cycling and she returned to the winner’s podium winning silver at the 2009 World Track Championships.

With sighted pilot Fran Meehan, she won bronze medals at both UCI World Championships in 2011 - track and road. They followed this up with gold in the Segovia leg of the 2011 World Cup. In the 2012 World Cup (road) they achieved fourth.

Impressive performances like this suggest they will be among the favourites at London 2012.
