Catherine O'Neill, from New Ross, Wexford, is one of Ireland’s most experienced field event athletes, having competed in both the Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008 Paralympics, with a best finish of fourth in the discus in Sydney. O'Neill was sixth in discus in Beijing.

O'Neill previously won gold in discus at the Birmingham 1998 World Championships. She finds herself in a fantastic position after winning gold in discus and silver in the club at the IPC World Athletic Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2011.

She enters London as one of Ireland’s five world champions hoping to achieve medals.
