Morrissey progresses in Singapore

Dublin's John Morrissey brushed aside the challenge of Equador's highly ranked Diego Acosta to move into the second round at the first World Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

In a rain interrupted match Morrissey, of the Donnybrook Tennis Club, started slowly but drove and smashed his way to a 7-5, 6-1 victory, causing a major upset.

In rowing, Skibbereen's Denise Walsh finished second in her single sculls heat and now moves into Monday's repercharge despite being hampered by an ear infection in her preparations.
