Terry Jenkins and Kyle Anderson both produced nine-dart finishes but lost their first round matches at the Ladbrokes World Championship.

Jenkins hit only the sixth nine-dart finish in the history of the tournament but was beaten in the final set of his match against Danish qualifier Per Laursen 4-2 in a tie-break.

Australian Anderson matched his achievement in his match against Ian White, which will see him share the nine-dart bonus of £30,000 with Jenkins, should no other player land a perfect leg in the remainder of the tournament. However, he went down 3-1.

In the other matches played at Alexandra Palace on Saturday, Mark Walsh and Wayne Jones suffered shock defeats, 3-1 to Finland's Jarkko Komula and 3-2 to Kevin McDine respectively.

In the evening session, Julio Barbero knocked out Andree Welge 4-1 but then the Spanish debutant bowed out 3-0 to Andy Hamilton.

Robert Thornton ousted Max Hopp 3-1 and Gary Anderson was a comfortable 3-0 conqueror of Mark Dudbridge, while the day's final match saw Paul Nicholson brush aside Stuart Kellett 3-0.
