Malaysian player Misbun Ramdan underlined his huge potential by winning the men's singles at the Carlton Irish Badminton Open in Baldoyle, beating German Dieter Domke in the final in straight sets.
It was the biggest win of his career so far for the young Malaysian (22), who dominated the match from the start.
By halfway in the opening set, Ramdan was leading 11-7 and he went on to win it 21-13.
The German came back in the second with the scores even at 4-4 and later at 9-9, but Ramdan always had the edge and pulled away to win 21-18.
When Beiwen Zhang of the USA took only two minutes to hammer seven points past Spain's Beatriz Corrales for only one in reply in the opening set of the women's singles decider, it looked like the match would be short.
To the great credit of Corrales, however, she fought back fighting after losing the opening set 9-21, and won the second 21-17.
It was now Zhang's turn to fight back and this she did in style take the decisive set 21-10 and with it the title.
In the mixed doubles, Jacco Arends and Selena Piek of the Netherlands came back from a set down to beat Scottish pair Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier.
Adam Cwalina and Pzemyslaw Wacha of Poland outclassed Dutch pair Jacco Arends and Jelle Maas (Ned) to take the men's doubles, while Selena Piek took a second title when she paired up with Eefje Muskens to beat the Ng sisters from Malaysia in the women's doubles decider.
