Chloe Magee into semis as Evans bows out at Irish Open

Chloe Magee won a tough three-set match over French number one Vignes Warren to seal a spot in the Carlton Irish Badminton Open women's semi-finals.

Magee prevailed 17-21 21-15 21-18 in Baldoyle and now faces China’s American Beiwan.

However, Scott Evans bid to retain the men's singles title ended this morning when he lost his quarter-final against Lukas Schmidt of Germany.

Evans had started brightly in a closely-fought match that went to three sets, winning the opener 21-16.

Schmidt then fought his way back and edged the second set 21-19 before Schmidt's consistency paid off to close out another tight set 21-19.

Ireland’s men’s doubles pairing of James Dolan and Sam Magee lost in three sets to Germany’s Fabian Holzer and Mark Lamsfuss.

In the mixed-doubles Chloe and Sam Magee lost to Dutch opponents Jacco Arends and Selena Piek.
