The team behind Newstalk's Off the Ball programme have resigned from the station, following a dispute over scheduling.

Presenters Eoin McDevitt, Ken Early and Ciaran Murphy, along with producers Simon Hick and Mark Horgan, have all parted company with Newstalk.

The popular sports programme has been on-air for around 10 years.

It is understood that a desire among the Off the Ball staff to move the programme into an earlier slot is the reason behind the fallout and that talks had been ongoing between the staff and Newstalk management for some time.

Station chiefs felt that such a move would not make commercial sense.

A statement from the radio station read: "Newstalk has confirmed that Eoin McDevitt, Simon Hick, Ken Early, Ciaran Murphy and Mark Horgan have resigned from its sports department."

The station also confirmed that the Off the Ball show will air tonight, but with a drastically changed line-up.

"Ger Gilroy, Newstalk Sports Editor, who devised Off the Ball in 2002, will be joined by mainstays of the Newstalk sports team - Cian Murtagh, David McIntyre and Joe Molloy - in taking over the running of the show, starting tonight."

"Newstalk would like to thank Eoin, Simon, Ken, Ciaran and Mark for their contributions to the station and wish them luck in their future endeavours."
