Ireland's Special Olympians claim 12-medal haul

Team Ireland will return home from the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games tomorrow with a hoard of 12 medals.

Ireland's athletes claimed three gold medals, six silver, three bronze and six place ribbons.

Today marked the final day of competition at the Games, which were held in PyeongChang in South Korea.

Dubliners Katherine Daly and Stuart Brierton both secured silver medals in the slalom novice division event.

In the slalom Intermediate division, Lucy Best from Antrim and Ryan Hill from Armagh took fourth place in their respective races while Gary Burton from Sallynoggin finished in sixth place.

Team Ireland has enjoyed great success at these Games securing 11 medals in the alpine skiing competition and one medal in floorball.

The team are due to touch down in Dublin Airport at 9.25pm on Wednesday, where they will be greeted by family members, friends and supporters.
