US top medal table as Irish finish 41st

The United States claimed two more golds on the final day of London 2012 to cement their place at the top of the medal table.

The US ended the Games with a total of 104 medals, including 46 gold, with China second on 87 - 38 golds, 27 silver and 22 bronze.

Hosts Great Britain finished third with 65 medals while Ireland haul of five medals was enough for a 41st place finish.

Russia ended strongly, winning three gold medals on day 16 to finish with 24 in total.

South Korea won 13 golds with Germany and France finishing the Games with 11 golds.

Australia proved the big disappointment with just seven golds, finishing in 10th place behind an excellent Hungary performance who won eight.
