In January 2009, Deirdre Ryan (29) achieved a personal best jump of 1.93m indoors in Leverkusen.

In August 2011, she jumped 1.95m outdoors at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea, which also qualified her for the final.

This height set a new Irish record and is the A-standard qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games. In the final, Ryan finished in joint-sixth position.

From Ballinteer, the South Dublin suburb, Ryan has been working and training in Germany for many years and has been a consistently good athlete at all the major championships.

First in Olympic action on 9 August in the heats. Start time is 9am.

SIGNIFICANT RESULTS:

2011: World Championships, Daegu, South Korea. High Jump – 6th.

2010: European Athletics Championships, Barcelona, Spain: High jump – 9th qualifiers.

2010: World Indoor Championships, Doha, Qatar. High jump - 17th in qualifiers.

2009: World Championships, Berlin, Germany. High jump – 16th in qualifiers.

2009: European Indoor Championships, Torino, Italy. High jump – tenth.

2007: European Indoor Championships, Birmingham, GB. High jump – 9th qualifiers.
