Olive Loughnane (36) has competed in three Olympic Games - 2000, 2004 and 2008. She has represented Ireland at five consecutive editions of the World Championships, winning a silver medal at the 2009 World Championships. Loughnane earned $30,000 in prize money from the IAAF for her silver medal.

She failed to finish the walk at the 2010 European Athletics Championships.

She was born in 1976 in Co Cork, the eldest of seven children.

She moved to Carrabane, Co Galway, with her family when she was a child, only later to return to Cork, where she is currently living with her husband and daughter.

She took a win on the 2011 World Race Walking circuit at the Dudinska Patdesiatkain March 2011.

In action on 11 August. Starts at 5pm.

SIGNIFICANT RESULTS:

2012: World Race Walking Cup, Saransk, Russia. 20km walk - 8th.

2011: World Championhsips, Daegu, South Korea, 20km walk - 16th.

2009: World Championships, Berlin, Germany. 20km walk – 2nd.

2008: Olympic Games, Beijing, China. 20km walk – 7th.
