Derry sprinter Jason Smyth emulated Olympic star Usain Bolt at the Paralympics in Beijing when he completed the 100m-200m double on Tuesday.

Smyth set a new world record of 21.43 seconds.

Orla Barry set a new paralympic record for her category in qualifying for the discus final with her first throw of the competition, but fouled all three throws in the final.

Ireland were beaten 4-2 by the Netherlands in their 5th/ 6th place classification match in football at the Paralympic games in Beijing on Tuesday.

Two goals in four minutes from Finbarr O’Riordan and Gary Messett gave Ireland a 2-1 lead after 11 minutes, but the Dutch fought back to claim a deserved victory.

On the track, Roy Guerin was sixth in his heat of the men’s 100 T53 category.
