Modern pentathlete Natalya Coyle has finished 25th in the World Cup final series number four in Chengdu, China, on Saturday.
The result qualifies Coyle for the World Cup final in London in July. That competition serves as the first Olympic qualification event, it is also a test event for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Robert Downes, president of Pentathlon Ireland, said: ‘This is a great step forward for the sport in Ireland and a fantastic result for Natalya who has trained extremely hard, in between studies, to achieve this. Great result for Pentathlon Ireland.’
Coyle herself commented: ‘I have trained so hard for this and it is very satisfying to make the final. This will also secure me World Cup final qualification which is such a thrill for me.’
