Mirko Hirvonen topped the timesheets after day one of the Italian leg of the World Rally Championship.

The M-Sport driver beat Jari-Matti Latvala in his heat of the super special stage by 1.7 seconds - toppling Thierry Neuville from the top spot.

Reigning champion Sebastien Ogier eventually tied second with Neuville after defeating Kris Meeke in his heat. The pair were 0.2s slower than Hirvonen.
