Nani Roma triumphed in the sixth stage of the Dakar Rally as overall leader Stephane Peterhansel strengthened his position.

Roma came home in a time of one hour, 49 minutes and 40 seconds in today's race from Arequipa to Arica, with Peterhansel in second.

However, the Frenchman could not complain after increasing his advantage over closest challenger Nasser Al-Attiyah, who was a disappointing seventh today, to nine minutes and 54 seconds.

In the bikes, David Casteu cut the gap on overall leader Olivier Pain to one minute and 15 seconds after edging out the Frenchman today.
