Ireland’s Adam Carroll has finished second in Sunday's feature race in China, adding to victory in the sprint event earlier in the day

It was Portugal who secured their first-ever win in an A1GP feature through Filipe Albuquerque.

Albuquerque was pushed hard towards the end of the race by Carroll but in the end the 26-year-old had to settle for second while Danny Watts of Great Britain finished third.

The top three remained in the order they were on the first lap after the restart before Albuquerque climbed into the lead following the first round of pit-stops.

Carroll then moved past Watts into second and looked good for moving into first place but the safety car was introduced once again when France's Nicolas Prost spun.

Consequently Carroll was unable to make ground on Albuquerque in the final laps.

However, the Irishman was delighted with finishing first in the sprint race.

‘It’s brilliant,’ said Carroll. ‘The guy’s have worked so hard and were due the results and this year I think we are going to get what we deserve.

‘I managed to get into turn one first and tried control it from there.

‘Obviously I knew Robert was going to be very quick and pushing extremely hard so I just kept my head down and tried not to make any mistakes.’
