Ireland national men’s hockey coach Andrew Meredith has announced a squad of 18 for the upcoming Champions Challenge I in Quilmes, Argentina from 24 November to 2 December.
It’s is Meredith’s first squad announcement as coach following on from a five-day training camp in Holland.
Commenting on his selection Meredith said: “The champions challenge in Argentina will provide a great test for the team in what should be an extremely close and difficult competition.
“I would expect that a number of the teams will view this as an excellent opportunity to qualify for the 2013 champions trophy, and to gain very valuable world ranking points....”
“The tournament presents a very good platform for me to have a good look at where we are in terms of experience and positional coverage, in a challenging environment against quality opposition,” he added.
Ireland face hosts Argentina on 24 November, Japan on 25 November and South Africa on the 27th, before the quarter-finals on the 29th, which are followed by the semi-finals and cross-pool play-offs on 1 December. The medal and classification matches are on December 2.
