Ireland put 10 goals passed the Italians in their second match of the EuroHockey Nations Trophy in Wrexham, Wales.

The Irish made their mark within 120 seconds of the starting whistle when John Jermyn punished the Italians for conceding the first penalty corner, utilising his trademark drag to great effect to give Ireland the early lead.

Italy responded six minutes later with a drag flick of their own, coming from Massimo Lanzano.

But Ireland continued to show early signs of dominance and Eugene Magee got his first goal.

Next up Cockram and Sothern combined to give Ireland their third and Cockram's first.

Just one minute before half time Jermyn was on form once again dragging home to give his side a 4-1 lead heading into the break.

Only three minutes later Ireland were on the scoreboard once again, Jermyn securing his hat-trick again off the set piece.

Nunez pulled one back for Italy but that was as good as it got for them and Ireland went on the rampage to secure another five goals within a 16 minute period.

The first came from Mitch Darling, before John Jermyn pounced on a rebounded short corner to score his sides seventh and his fourth.

Butler then made his mark on the day that he secured his 152nd cap to become the highest ever capped Irish Men's Player.

Peter Caruth weaved some magic for a great goal at 9-2 and Magee secured his second to seal a resounding victory for the Irish.

Coach Revington who will no doubt be happy to walk away with 10 goals commented after the match:

'This was a better team performance today with consistency from all individuals throughout the game. We will look for a further improvement from everyone moving into game three.'
