Ireland Men's drew with Wales on Sunday in the second of a double header weekend of action.
The boys in green opened strongly with the majority of posession in the opening quarter of the game. Ireland opened their account in the 20th when Mitch Darling collected the ball at the top of the circle to slip passed two defenders for a reverse hit shot to roof it into the net.
Both sides exchanged short corners but neither side converted and the first half closed out one nil to Ireland.
Ireland again opened strongly winning a number of short corners and their persistence finally paid off in the 57th minute when Darling scored a brace and doubled Ireland's lead from a deflected short corner.
Shortly after Ireland were reduced to ten men, when Shaw got sent to the bin for 14 minutes.
Wales took advantage of the sending off when Huw Jones deflected in a short corner after 59 minutes.
Ireland were again reduced by another man when David Ames was sent off for an unfair challenge but Ireland managed to mop up the pressure of playing with just nine men until Wales were awarded another short corner in the 67th minute, here they took their chance to level the score when marksman Oliver Cooper converted the set piece.
Manager Peter Jackson commented: ‘Overall this was a positive weekend for this young squad. They proved themselves today when the odds where against them, and were unfortunate not to come away with a more positive result.’
