Yoo Sun-young claimed a dramatic play-off victory over IK Kim to seal the Kraft Nabisco Championship title in California.

It was tough luck on Kim, who was set to claim the title until missing a one-foot putt at the 18th that sent the pair to an extra hole. And one hole was all Yoo needed to claim her first major title, as she birdied the 18th while Kim could only manage a par five.

Yoo and Kim started the day in a group of five players sitting three shots off overnight leaders Yani Tseng and Karin Sjodin.

But as world number one Tseng and unfancied Swede Sjodin fell away, Yoo and Kim took advantage.

Yoo was level at the turn after two birdies and two bogeys, but picked up shots at the 11th, 12th and 15th for a round of three under par. That appeared to be handing the title Kim, who was blemish-free through 17 holes with four birdies, including at the 16th and 17th, before slipping up at the last.

The pair finished nine under for the tournament, one clear of Tseng and two clear of a group which included Sjodin and 2011 champion Stacy Lewis.
