Stephanie Meadow is through to the last 16 of the British Ladies Amateur Golf Championship at Royal Portrush after beating the leading qualifier Camilla Hedberg, the Spanish Champion, at the 19th hole in a second round match this evening.

Meadow, who is a member of the host club, is the only Irish player left in the Championship after second round defeats this afternoon for Deirdre Smith and Victoria Bradshaw.

Earlier today, Smith pulled off a surprise victory over Lisa Maguire in the first round.

Lisa's twin sister Leona was another first round casualty losing to Perrine Delacour of France on the 20th hole while Danielle McVeigh, Emma O'Driscoll and Charlene Reid also lost in the opening round.
