Rumours are circulating that 3 Irish Open winner Shane Lowry will announce he is to turn professional tomorrow.
Lowry, 22, won the 3 Irish Open as an amateur last week but he was unable to collect the winner’s cheque of €500,000, which went to second placed finisher Robert Rock.
However, the win meant the Clara man had the option of taking up a two-year exemption on the European Tour.
Prior to his dramatic victory in the Irish Open, which was only confirmed after a play-off with Rock, the Walker Cup in September had been Lowry’s target.
But there is a place in next week’s European Open at the London Club on offer and a host of lucrative European Tour events scheduled between now and September.
Horizon Sports Management, who already represent Graeme McDowell, Ross Fisher, Gareth Maybin, Michael Hoey and Jonathan Caldwell, was believed to be one of the front runners in the race to secure Lowry’s signature in the event he opted to join the professional ranks.
The company has revealed they are to make a ‘significant’ announcement at a press conference tomorrow.
