Denmark's Thomas Bjorn and South African Richard Sterne have withdrawn from next week's US Open due to injury.

Bjorn, who squandered a five-shot lead in the final round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth last month, is suffering from neck and shoulder problems while Sterne's injury is undisclosed.

Sterne will be replaced at Pinehurst by American Scott Langley, who was the first alternate from sectional qualifying in Memphis.

Bjorn's place in the year's second major championship will be taken by amateur Andrew Dorn, the first alternate from sectional qualifying in Springfield, Ohio.
