Charles Howell III birdied the 18th and fellow American Tag Ridings bogeyed the last for a two-shot swing that left the duo tied for the lead after the Turning Stone Resort Championship third round on Saturday.
Howell finished with a three-under-par 69 for an eight-under 208 total while Ridings's three-putt bogey gave him a 71.
One stroke adrift at Verona were Australian Jason Day, who eagled the par-five 18th for a 71, Briton Brian Davis (69) and Americans Kyle Thompson (69) and Jeff Overton (73), the leader at the start of the round.
Australian Robert Allenby and American Dustin Johnson were back on 210, one better than Australian Mark Hensby and Americans Charles Warren and Davis Love III, who fired a best-of-the-day 66.
The second round was completed earlier on Saturday after 23 players were unable to finish on Friday due to bad weather.
