Rory McIlroy has slipped to third in the world rankings after his disappointing performance at this weekend’s Open Championship.

The Ulsterman ended the tournament on eight over to finish joint 60th.

Luke Donald remains world number one, but Tiger Woods is within striking distance after he moved up to second after he tied for third position with fellow American Brandt Snedeker at Royal Lytham & St Anne’s.

Ernie Els is up from 40th to 15th in the world after his amazing Open Championship win.
