Zimbabwe's Nick Price and American Mark Calcavecchia combined for a nine-under par effort to share the lead after the opening round of the $3 million Shark Shootout in Florida.
The veteran duo on 63 were joined at the head of affairs by Keegan Bradley and Brendan Steele in the 12-pair event.
Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker were one stroke off the pace after the first round with US prodigy Rickie Fowler and Colombia's Camilo Villegas on seven-under and Jason Dufner and Sean O'Hair on six-under in fifth.
Greg Norman, who captained the Internationals in their loss to the Americans in last month's Presidents Cup at Melbourne, and American Scott McCarron were 11th on three-under after 18 holes.
McCarron was a fill-in for Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson, who withdrew due to torn left thumb ligaments.
