Seve accepts invite from St Andrews
Wednesday, 11 November 2009 20:28Seve Ballesteros has accepted an invitation to become an honorary member of golf's ruling body, the Royal and Ancient Club of St Andrews.
The three-time Open champion, who after battling a brain tumour hopes to be present at the Home of Golf next July, said: 'I am greatly honoured.
'I have had, perhaps, the outstanding moment of my career at St Andrews (his second Claret Jug in 1984 when he birdied the last) and the town will always retain a very special place close to my heart.
'I sincerely hope that I will be able to come back next year and be part of the 150th anniversary of the Open Championship.'
He joins a list which includes the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of York, former American president George Herbert Walker Bush, Tony Jacklin, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Peter Thomson, Lee Trevino, Roberto De Vicenzo and Tom Watson.
