Thornton leads Irish chase in Qualifying

Simon Thornton is the leading Irishman at the European Tour's qualifying school in Spain's Arcos Gardens, lying one shot behind the leader, Spain's Santiago Luna.

Thornton shot a five-under 67 and is level with Richard Kind from the Netherlands and England's Gareth Davies.

Luna, a veteran of more than 500 European Tour events and a winner on the circuit in 1995.

Of Ireland's other competitors, Barrie Trainor is on one-under, Mark Campbell is level and Mark Murphy is one-over.

Chris Wood, who finished fifth at Royal Birkdale and won stage one of the qualifying school in September, fired a two-under-par 70 to share ninth place.
