Casey named golfer of the month

Order of Merit leader Paul Casey has been named September's European Tour Golfer of the Month after winning the HSBC World Match Play Championship and playing a starring role in the Ryder Cup.

Casey banked £1million, the richest first prize in golf, after a record-breaking 10 and eight victory over American Shaun Micheel in the match play final at Wentworth to go top of the money list.

He then carded a hole-in-one at the K Club to win his Saturday fourballs with David Howell against Stewart Cink and Zach Johnson and was unbeaten for the week, winning three points from four matches as Europe retained the Ryder Cup.
