Murphy on course to clinch Tour card

Ireland's Gary Murphy remains on course to win his card for next season's European Tour after climbing to fifth with just one round of the Qualifying School remaining in Spain. Murphy is in joint fifth position on 19-under-par after a 69 in today's penultimate round at Emporda, and with 35 cards on offer, he will be confident of gaining a Category 11 exemption for next year.

Meanwhile, Damian McGrane is also well placed in a share for 25th after an excellent 67 left him 12-under, while Stephen Browne is 7-under (72) and Gary Cullen 6-under (73) with just 18 to play.

England's Philip Archer, who has been seeing psychologist Karl Morris this year after failing on seven of his previous eight visits to the school, continued to play the best golf of his life to take a four shot lead. Already two ahead after four of the six rounds, the 30-year-old went to the turn in 29 for the first time in his career and with 18 holes to go is now four clear of Sweden's Per Nyman.
