Woods wins Players Championship

Tiger Woods added the biggest title missing from his impressive resume when he won The Players Championship by one stroke over Vijay Singh of Fiji in Florida today.

Woods, who with 22 other players returned to Sawgrass to complete the final round after Sunday's heavy rains held up play for three hours, finished his last nine holes to post a total of 14-under 274 and collect the top prize of $1,080,000.

Singh, undone by a triple-bogey seven, settled for the second-place check for $648,000. Now all eyes are on Woods as he heads for Augusta to try to add the Masters to the US Open, Open and US PGA he lifted last year.

"This is special and it's extremely rewarding to have won, but it's not a major," said Woods, whose main focus has always been the Masters. "I was sick and tired of people writing that I was in a slump before I won last week. They obviously don't understand the game real well - it wasn't as if I was missing cuts." (PA & Reuters)
