Graeme Mulcahy's first-half goal and the last five points of the game helped Limerick inflict a first defeat of the campaign on Wexford and seal a 1-14 to 2-08 win at the Gaelic Grounds.

Paul Morris and Rory Jacob scored Wexford goals at both ends of the second-half, but Liam Dunne's men were left to rue ten first-half wides as Limerick move to the top of the Division 1B standings.

Conor Allis was in fine form for Donal O'Grady and TJ Ryan's side and his ten points meant the Treaty men never trailed after the fifth minute.

Wexford were wasteful at times, but Limerick were ruthless at the other end however, and they struck a crucial goal in the ninth minute when Browne's ground stroke found Kevin Downes, and his handpass sent Mulcahy in for a 1-01 to 0-01 lead.

Wexford continued to be plagued by poor shooting and shot selection, while Limerick accelerated clear with points from Mulcahy, and two Allis scores from dead balls.

But the league leaders managed to work their way back into the tie and with Lee Chin growing into the encounter they pulled to within four points thanks to Harry Kehoe and Paul Morris points.

After another Allis free, Wexford hit two in a row from Guiney and Morris, but Limerick would have been relieved to have a four-point cushion at the break after the impressive Mulcahy pointed to make it 1-06 to 0-05.

Limerick were slow to start the second-half and after Rory Jacob pointed, Morris flicked past Nickie Quiad into the net to put just a point between the sides.

Jacob levelled matters with his second point soon after but with James Ryan an increasing influence for Limerick they retook control.

Three frees in a row from Allis gave his side a two-point cushion and after Shane Dowling landed his first, another brace of frees from Allis meant Jacob's late strike was just a consolation.
