Tom Howard has stepped down as manager of the Kerry senior hurling team.

The Kingdom reached the final of the Christy Ring Cup in June and the Clare man had been expected to continue on in his role in 2014.

However, last night Kerry chairman Patrick O’Sullivan confirmed that Howard and his management team had stepped down after one year, stating that the news came as “a shock”.

Kerry open their Allianz League Division 2A campaign against Derry on Sunday 16 February.
