Waterford have been unsuccessful in their attempt to have Walsh Park approved as the venue for their Munster Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final against Cork next season.

The decision, which was revealed at a meeting of the Munster Council on Thursday night, follows a stadium inspection by provincial officials earlier in the week.

Walsh Park is currently being upgraded but a capacity of 17,000 falls short of the numbers which could be accommodated elsewhere.

Semple Stadium has been selected to host the high-profile encounter on Sunday, May 25 2014.

Meanwhile, Páirc MacUílín is to benefit from Casement Park’s impending facelift with the news that the Ballycastle stadium will stage Antrim's home games in next year's Allianz Hurling League.
