Shane Kavanagh has fought his way back into the Galway reckoning after being named in an extended hurling squad for 2013.

The former captain was one of many dropped last year when Anthony Cunningham, Tom Helebert and Mattie Kenny took over the Tribesmen.

Aonghus Callanan is also back training with the squad following a year out travelling.

Goalkeeper James Skehill remains sidelined following surgery and is set to miss most of the league campaign.

Galway, who lost the All-Ireland final to Kilkenny after a replay, take part in their first competitive game of the season in the Walsh Cup against Carlow or Antrim at the end of the month.
