Loughrea’s Johnny Maher has been suspended for eight weeks following incidents in the Galway SHC final against St Thomas.

Maher appeared to strike two St Thomas players with the hurley after winning a 57th minute penalty, actions that subsequently were viewed over 150,000 times when the video footage was uploaded on to YouTube.

He also appeared to trip another St Thomas player after converting the penalty.

St Thomas won 3-11 to 2-11 with Maher failing to see red for the incidents.

St Thomas next play Loughgiel Shamrocks in the All-Ireland semi-final in February.
