Galway hurler Joe Canning has dislocated his shoulder playing for Limerick Institute of Technology in the Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.
The Portumna man has been ruled out of action for four weeks as a result of the injury.
The dislocation means that Canning will miss Galway's opening Allianz Hurling League fixtures, including Sunday's meeting with champions Dublin.
Limerick IT won the quarter-final against GMIT on a scoreline of 1-19 to 0-08.
