Antrim manager Jerry Wallace is opposed to the idea of making inter-county managers professional.

Wallace, who was appointed Antrim hurling manager in October, travels from Midleton, Cork to Belfast and is content with the expenses he receives for making that sacrifice.

He told The Examiner: "Since I’ve been involved on the inter-county scene, I’ve always got only my expenses and I’m happy to do that.

"At heart I’m a GAA man, I’m still involved with my own club [Midleton] at home. I’ve never looked for a fee, I’ve always been involved only for what I considered legitimate expenses. I think that’s the road the GAA has to stay on."

On the subject of making referees professional he said: "I don’t see how it could be funded.

"I’m now in charge of an inter-county team, I see the costs we’re incurring and for the last two months, all we’ve had is outgoings, we’ve had no income - that’s the reality."
