Mike McNamara has said that the current dispute in Clare hurling will not be allowed to drag on for long.

Manager McNamara has the backing of the board but not of the majority of his players, but aims to convince them he is the man to lead the team.

He told the Irish Times: ‘This is sport. It’s not a life or death issue. There are no fatalities at the end of this.

‘We’ll get on with it, what’s best for Clare hurling. The mood of the delegates is that the players and management and the county board should get together on this, and try to resolve it, if at all possible.

‘If it can be resolved it will be, but we won’t be talking or dragging things out until next March, I assure you.’
