Reigning Munster champions Tipperary got their 2009 campaign off to a winning start with a hard-earned Waterford Crystal Cup win over Waterford at St Mollerans.

With Darragh Egan and Seamus Hennessy showing well, Tipperary powered to a 0-10 to 0-05 half-time lead.

Suddenly, the visitors were very much on the back foot when a Michael Walsh goal and a brace of Jamie Nagle points helping the Deise go 1-09 to 0-10 ahead.

But Tipperary finished strongly and secured the win thanks to points from Hennessy, Paul Kelly and Egan (0-02).
