Kildare’s hurlers have qualified for the semi-finals of NHL Division 2 after a spirited quarter-final win over Derry at Clones.

The Lilywhites will take on Wicklow in Carlow in next Sunday’s semi-finals, with the winners to face either Westmeath or Laois in the decider.

Ben Dorney’s side led by 1-03 to 0-02 early and built up a 2-09 to 0-07 buffer by the break, with Brendan Byrne and Billy White rasping home their goals.

The win crowns a memorable day in the history of Kildare GAA as the county’s footballers have also won through to a league semi-final.
