Dublin floundered as their third league game in the space of eight days ended in a 4-15 to 1-9 defeat to Tipperary in Nenagh.
Tipp booked a Division One quarter-final meeting with Waterford as Danny O'Hanlon (2), Eoin and Paul Kelly shared out their goal.
The Dubs, who had hopes of reaching the knockout stages, were 1-3 to 0-0 down inside 11 minutes.
Babs Keating's hosts were 4-7 to 0-3 in front at the break – Dublin's points were all frees from Ronan Fallon and Stuart Mullen (2).
The Metropolitans' goal came from a 65th-minute penalty from substitute Emmet Carroll.
