Paul Brady will take on Armagh’s Charly Shanks in the Men’s Open quarter-final at the World Handball Championships in Portland, Oregon later today.

Brady defeated fellow Cavan man, Michael Finnegan in Wednesday's Round of 16 game and despite carrying a severe hip injury, looks in top physical condition.

Dublin’s Eoin Kennedy became the first major casualty in the Irish camp yesterday evening when he lost to Texan, Allan Garner.

Meanwhile, Westmeath’s Robbie McCarthy and number two seed, Cork’s Tony Healy, both advanced to the quarter-final stage.

Kilkenny's Michael 'Ducksy' Walsh will play Jay Balkenbush from Washington in the final of the Masters A competition.

Meanwhile, the Men’s Open Doubles also gets underway in Portland today with Dublin’s Eoin Kennedy and Cavan’s Michael Finnegan pairing up to take on Alvaro Rebazza and Andres Calle (USA) in their opening game.

Meath’s Brian Carroll and Westmeath's Robbie McCarthy take on top Canadian duo, Shane Vigen and Jon Hohol and with Carroll have made an early departure from the Singles event, the Irish men will be gunning for a first round victory.
