Cormac Reilly's handling of the Kerry v Mayo All-Ireland SFC semi-final replay has come in for much criticism from RTÉ analyst Kevin McStay.

McStay, a former Mayo player, prefaced his views by saying that he wasn't putting on a "Green and Red jersey" in outlining the frustration he felt at the way Reilly refereed the Gaelic Grounds encounter which Kerry won after extra time.

Speaking on The Sunday Game, he said: "The two teams deserved a top-class refereeing performance. I'm going to say that the performance of Cormac Reilly was appalling.

"It's a tough word to use but the players at this level just deserve a bit more from a referee, where eventually, the game ran away from him. It was nearly out of control."
